The Fall Team Spotlight: Matthew Masterton
We’re back again for another look at the team members that make The Fall Tattoo such a great place to be! While anyone can learn how to become a tattoo artist or piercer, it’s the combination of our unique stories that sets our shop apart from the rest.
Matthew Masterton is one of our piercers, bringing over a decade of passion to the table. His story is one of endurance, adaptability, and unwavering commitment to the craft.
How Matthew Got His Start in the Tattoo and Piercing Industry
Many piercers had a lightbulb moment after a few trips to the parlor. After getting his first piercing at the age of 16, Matthew’s piercer would later inspire him to give this career a try.
His journey took him to Carlisle, Cumbria in Northern England, starting with a piercing apprenticeship that eventually turned into a seven-year travel journey. He got his first job when visiting The Fall and has worked at the shop for almost nine years.
The Challenges of Becoming a Piercing Artist
While Matthew was thrilled to start his apprenticeship back in the day, money troubles pushed him to get two part-time jobs to make ends meet. He chose jobs that lined up with his hobbies, working at a theater and a bar.
What Matthew Enjoys Most About His Career
Piercings are a powerful form of self-expression, paving the way for nearly endless jewelry, outfit, and body modification ideas. This artistic foundation is one of Matthew’s favorite details about his profession.
He loves seeing people smiling after the procedure is over and feels proud to be part of their journey toward authenticity.
