FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DO I NEED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT?
Appointments are not required, but they are a good idea. We take walk-ins whenever possible, but availability varies from day to day. For custom work, it is best to make an appointment so that the artist has time to design your tattoo.

HOW DO I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT?
Appointments must be made in person with the artist of your choice. You can call ahead to schedule a consultation, or just stop by. Please bring printed copies of any reference material you may have.

HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO GET A TATTOO?
You must be 18 years of age to get tattooed. Please bring 2 pieces of Government-issued ID with you.

HOW CAN I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT IF I DON'T LIVE IN VANCOUVER?
If you are coming from out of town, you can schedule an appointment ahead of time by giving us a call at 604-676-3066. Please let us know the dates of your trip, what you want to get (design, size, placement), and if there is a particular artist you want to work with. Feel free to send any images you would like us to use as reference.

HOW MUCH WILL MY TATTOO COST?
The cost of a tattoo is determined by how long it takes to do. There is a minimum price of $100 that applies to all tattoos, no matter how small. We typically charge between $150 to $180 per hour. For an estimate/quote, please come into the shop and speak to an artist in person. Larger pieces—such as half sleeves, full sleeves, and back pieces—may be charged hourly or by the piece. For these type of tattoos, it is very difficult to estimate how long the tattoo will take, as it depends on the design, how you sit for the tattoo, etc. Sessions for larger pieces are usually 3-4 hours long and can be scheduled as far apart as you like, so that the cost of the tattoo is spread out over time.

CAN I PAY FOR MY TATTOO WITH A CREDIT CARD?
We accept cash, debit, VISA and Mastercard but unfortunately we do not accept American Express.

DO YOU DO TEMPORARY/HENNA/AIRBRUSH TATTOOS?
No. We only do permanent tattoos.

DO YOU DO WHITE INK TATTOOS?
Some of our artists do, sometimes.White ink tattoos are tricky, because it's almost impossible to guarantee how they will look. They really only show up on pale skin—remember, you're seeing the ink through a layer of skin, so the darker your skin is, the less visible a pale color will be. Sometimes they end up looking a bit yellowish, and sometimes they don't show up at all. If you are still interested in a white ink tattoo, please come into the shop and speak to an artist in person about it.

DO YOU DO INNER LIP TATTOOS?
Some of our artists do. There is always a chance the ink will “fall out” during the healing process, so we cannot guarantee these tattoos. Inner lip tattoos also have a tendency to distort, fade, or disappear entirely over time. If you want an inner lip tattoo, please come into the shop and speak to an artist in person about it.

CAN YOU FIX/COVER A TATTOO I ALREADY HAVE
We are happy to touch up or rework old tattoos, or to cover them, if we can. Whether or not we can depends on the tattoo. The best thing to do is come by and show us what you have so we can let you know what is or isn't possible. Keep in mind that a cover-up will always be significantly larger than the original tattoo. Tattoo ink is not opaque, so a cover-up is more about disguising or distracting from the original tattoo, rather than “painting over it.” Very dense, dark tattoos are difficult to cover and may require a few sessions of laser to lighten them up before they can be worked on.

DO TATTOOS HURT?
Technically, yes. It’s not unbearable, but it’s not exactly fun, either. In general, it is more painful if your system is already stressed for any reason. If you are sick, hungover, didn't get enough sleep, etc. it will probably hurt more. The best thing you can do is get a good night's sleep, make sure you've eaten something and drink plenty of water before you come, and relax.

WHAT IS THE MOST PAINFUL AREA? WHAT IS THE LEAST PAINFUL?
It varies from person to person. Some people say that bony areas tend to be a bit more painful than the more fleshy areas, while some people say the opposite. We always recommend you get your tattoo in an area that works perfectly for the design, regardless of whether or not it may be a bit more sensitive in that area.

CAN I DRINK BEFORE I GET TATTOOED?
No. We will not tattoo anyone who is under the influence of alcohol. Alcohol also thins the blood, which may make your tattoo bleed more than usual and also makes it harder for the client to sit still.

CAN I USE ANESTHETIC/NUMBING CREAMS?
It's ultimately up to you and your artist to decide, but there a few things to keep in mind. Numbing creams can change the texture of your skin and how it takes ink, which can affect the final appearance of the tattoo. They also aren't particularly effective, since they get wiped off pretty quickly as the tattoo is being done. The risks aren't always worth the minimal rewards, but if you have a hard time sitting for a tattoo, anesthetics might be a good option for you.

IS IT SAFE?
Yes. We take every precaution possible with regard to hygiene. We use sterile, single-use needles and disposable gloves. All common surfaces are disinfected pre- and post-sessions. All other supplies are either single-use or medically sterilized. Our autoclave is tested every 2 weeks by an outside service to make sure it is functioning properly. However, there is always a possibility of issues arising if you do not properly care for your tattoo.

CAN I GET TATTOOED IF I AM PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING?
It is not a good idea to get tattooed if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as the body’s systems are already stressed. If you have further questions about this, it would be best to discuss it with your doctor.

SHOULD I TIP MY ARTIST?
Tipping is not mandatory but extremely appreciated! If you are happy with the service, please consider tipping your artist. :)
